Artist Bio
Chalom, aka Mike Lane is a multi-creative based in Victoria's beautiful Dandenong Ranges. Also a DJ and Musician, he has toured internationally with his band, Rivertribe, since 1998; releasing 7 albums and signing a record deal with EMI in Nashville in 2003 and touring USA, Canada, Europe and Asia with his band and family. He is a self taught painter and furniture artist, architectural and interior designer who now finds himself in high demand for his edgy designs, art and furniture for domestic and retail fit-outs in the Dandenong Ranges region with recent commercial clients such as Soap Opera stores and Artist David Bromley.
His art celebrates the beauty and sanctity of life. His childlike, naive style, using carpenters pencils, house paint, oil sticks and pages from newspapers and old King James bibles depicts flowers, buildings and words with a semi-abstract, figurative simplicity that sources it's inspiration from dreams, scriptures and spiritual, even prophetic visions. Chalom (Kuh-lome) is an ancient Hebrew word that means "Dreamer" and " the entanglement of ideas during sleep, when they are free of the rule of the intellect. " His themes are strongly positive and optimistic, encouraging a connection to the Divine and wondrous aspects of life and living. Chalom does not formally exhibit his work and until recently, has only responded to commissions and participated in "street hangs" of his artwork in public spaces and created artwork as he performs his music live on stage.
