It is of a landmark historical/architectural dwelling (McLoud House) in Noarlunga South Australia, at the street end of an historic pier and one of my families favourite snorkelling reefs. The wash-a-way technique is very difficult - it requires that the image be painted with imagination...because a completed gouache painting is completely covered with indelible black ink and then placed in a large tray filled with water and gently washed. The designer gouache should ideally washaway, taking parts of the ink with it and leaving an impression of the image ala a lithograph or etching. It is a very difficult process to complete successfully, particularly on a large scale...I am pleased to report that this piece lived up to the ideal.
