Artwork Description

Shot in Brisbane, this abstract image channels the hush and mystery of the ocean. As someone who adores the muffled and colourful world of reef diving - I set out to recreate that feeling on land. I intentionally chose to experiment with the “wrong” white balance and decided to manually hand‑focus my macro lens on just a few fine filaments and singular stamens of a pink Persian Silk tree. The result is a moody, reef‑inspired botanical that is part flower, part seascape. Crafted for modern walls and available as an archival fine‑art print, I hoped this underwater-inspired image evokes the dreamy, otherworldly quality of being submerged under the oceans surface.

Artist Bio

Mindy has been immersed in photography for 20 years, cultivating a diverse practice that bridges commercial expertise with artistic exploration. Her journey began in high school where, in the depths of the darkroom, she fell hopelessly in love with the craft of film photography. After completing tertiary studies in digital photo-imaging in 2011, she expanded her foundation by exploring various facets of the photography industry. For the past nine years, Mindy has co-owned a successful property photography business. This commercial foundation has provided both a technical and creative base that now sees her returning to her roots as an artist. Mindy has renewed her focus on creating an intimate body of work that reveals hidden narratives within the natural world. Specialising in abstract flora and fleeting moments, she captures the transient beauty that often escapes our notice.

Artist Statement:

My current body of work investigates the hidden narratives written in the natural world. With my lens pointed toward flora and organic forms, I capture the fleeting and unnoticed moments that populate our peripheral vision.
I employ deliberate compositional strategies to challenge conventional observation: abstract angles, shallow depth of field, intentional motion blur, and extreme close-ups to reveal the intricate details and fractals of light. High contrast and purposeful under-exposure become tools for drawing attention to small textures, ephemeral patterns, and brief gestures. Each photograph represents a singular, unrepeatable moment in nature.
A visual reminder that everything in the natural world exists in constant flux. What we observe today will have transformed by tomorrow. By revealing these hidden layers of light and beauty, I invite viewers to rediscover their relationship with the world around them. I aim to create a visual meditation on impermanence, beauty, and the art of truly seeing.
