Artwork Description

A fresh perspective on a favourite place. This new piece takes an aerial view over the Mornington Peninsula.

I was captivated by the long, clean line of the jetty cutting into that incredible blue, with the tiny hints of life—people walking, boats heading out. Those three trails of white wake are the moment’s signature, literally drawing movement into the serene landscape of clean sand and calm water.

It’s about the quiet geometry we create against the natural coast, and the beautiful traces we leave behind.

Artist Bio

Mingze SUN is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice elegantly bridges the disciplines of watercolour painting. A graduate with a Master of Music from the University of Melbourne (2023), he possesses a deep theoretical and intuitive understanding of musicality, which forms the core of his visual art.

His work explores the translation of musical rhythm, emotion, and atmosphere onto paper. Through a masterful focus on light, shadow, and fluid washes, he captures not just a scene, but its inherent tempo and mood. This unique interdisciplinary approach results in evocative pieces that resonate with a distinct lyrical quality.

Committed to his craft, SUN has studied under renowned Victorian artists including David Taylor and Nina Volk. He is an active member of the Watercolour Society of Victoria and the Peninsula Art Society, contributing to and engaging with the local arts community. Her practice is a continuous meditation on the harmonious interplay between auditory and visual expression.
