Frequently I paint from life and collected these lovely native blooms from a neighbour's garden and placed them in a vase of my mother's - I often feature objects that remind me of her in my works. It comes from an Australian ceramics studio (Janet Grey) and I matched it with a kitschy item, the ceramic koala and dramatically lit the scene to provide interesting shadows. The 'imposter' is the yellow protea, a native of South Africa - flowers that are often included in 'native bunches' from florists. Framed in a dark carved frame.
