Stay

This piece was inspired by my recent visit to Queensland.

I grew up on the Gold Coast and a lot of my friends were anticipating that I was actually moving back there and would leave Melbourne because of what’s currently going on here in relation to COVID - 19.

I was there for my father‘s funeral…

I find that it is from the sorrow and pain of life that joy finds its way to the canvas.

This artwork is mostly about following the peace that I had to STAY in Melbourne and not be a part of the fear and of what feels like mass-exodus in this community and instead be part of the hope that things can be different.

I love everything that’s tied to communication and creativity.

I am what I guess you'd would call a ‘pandemic painter’. When I arrived back in Australia in March 2020, I found myself in hospital with an erupted appendix. There were quite a few complications and I was told that I was lucky to be alive after a major operation like this. It was definitely a rough landing after being away from Australia for about six years.

While I was recovering Melbourne was in lockdown and my body was in lockdown, I’d always been creative and I was eager to do something to express my creativity and process what I was going through during my recovery. I ordered some materials online and started painting, thinking that if I liked what I painted enough, I would hang it on my wall.

When I shared my work on social media I was contacted by people to purchase my art… and that’s how it all started.

Now my original art work lives in various parts of the Australia, the UK and America. And can also be found in New Zealand, Hong Kong and China.

I had my first art exhibition in January 2021 in Perth my paintings travelled ahead of me and then I was unable to attend due to COVID lockdown and board closures.

I am still amazed and overwhelmed by the support that my art collectors have surrounded me with.

I absolutely Love painting, for me it is the closest that I get to God.

My dream work situation would be sitting around a table of wonderful humans pursing excellence in their various fields. Then putting a problem or idea on the table and collaborating to execute it beautifully. DREAM TEAM.

I am here to inspire and encourage others in their creativity.

I love grey Melbourne mornings, filled with good music, woolly socks, drinking a long-black and eating poached eggs with, you guessed it, smashed avo, don’t forget the chilli! Seriously, eat the chilli.

When I’m not painting or teaching art online you’ll find me taking a long walk in the nature, putting my 35mm film camera to good use and working on my manuscript- ‘ Signs and Wonders’ which is based on my heroes within the Deaf community.
