Tania has been drawing since she was a little girl...always dragging around a bag of coloured pencils and paper wherever she went. Completing qualifications in Art Education and then Fashion Design gave her all the basics. After a successful career in both she now pursues her true passion and vocation as a contemporary botanical ink artist. Tania is currently enrolled at the University of Western Australia completing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in both Fine Art and Art History An exciting opportunity to pursue and present her interpretation of the environment, nature and the amazing landscape of Western Australia.
Her drawings are large and very detailed ... sometimes taking months to complete. Hand drawn with a fountain pen to get the blackest black ink. Her goal is to highlight little pockets of magic in the natural environment that might get overlooked in our everyday life. The drama of black and white was her first love focusing on texture and pattern. Her works are mostly black ink on white paper with bursts of bright color that nature inspires. The contrast of the black and white beside the bright color aims to show the movement, pattern and texture captured in a static moment of the natural environment.
Her themes are based around her observations of the unique architectural flora that Western Australia has to offer. Tania is endlessly inspired by the textures and patterns in our natural environment aiming to capture it in her botanical art through her reimagined lens.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My visual art practice is rooted in creative conservation and an enduring reverence for the quiet poetry of the natural world. Guided by a lifelong fascination with flora, I work to preserve and honour the delicate forms, colours and stories held within plants. I document the intimate dialogue that occurs when we pause long enough to truly see nature.My process is slow, intentional and tactile as an antidote to the relentless pace of the digital age. Each piece drawn with fountain pen and ink becomes a record of that pause, a moment of stillness captured in an impression.
Conservation is the thread that binds my work. I create as an advocate as much as an artist, hoping to nurture a deeper connection to the often overlooked landscapes around us. By drawing attention to native species, seasonal shifts, and the fragility of ecosystems, I invite viewers to consider not only nature’s beauty but also its vulnerability.
I aim to make the voice of botanical art deeply contemporaneous pushing past current commercial trends. To reveal its enduring relevance and urgency in the modern context of environmentalism. I strive to show that botanical art is not merely decorative but a living evolving language speaking to our present moment.
As my art finds it way into homes across Australia, welcomed by people who share a desire to support conservation through the art they live with. I am passionate about making botanical art both beautiful and meaningful. Art that complements a space while carrying the quiet message of care for the environment. This intersection of beauty and purpose is central to my practice.
Ultimately, my work seeks to restore calm and reconnection to the earth, each other and the quiet places that sustain us. Each piece is both an offering and an invitation to look closely, breathe deeply and rediscover the beauty of the natural world in a contemporary form.
