Cradle Eclipse

Cradle Mountain is a place of exceptional natural beauty in the heart of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. My works convey a suspended place cloaked in shadow and mystery, a place where the air feels otherworldly, almost ethereal. Jagged peaks rise with foreboding majesty; where ancient alpine flora clings to life amidst the stark expanse of this wilderness area, each a testament to resilience in this harsh environment.

My practice is about exploring the mysteries of natural places, of hidden seclusion and renewal. There is a certain clarity being in the landscape, a desire to interpret and listen to the changes in nature, to feel the seasons, the time and temperature of the day, to watch the water flow knowing that this view will never resonate the same way again. Working with mixed media also shapes my interpretation and becomes an integral part of the work. I work mainly with oil paints that can be applied thickly or thinly building up layers towards a fuller varied surface then scrapping back and being reworked as I search for new possibilities within the work.
