While spending time with a pack of brumbies in Kiandra, my attention was caught by this young foal tucked safely in the shadow of its mother. The pair stayed close, moving together through the group, the foal’s small frame almost disappearing into her protective presence.

There was something quietly endearing about the moment—the softness in the foal’s eye, the calm confidence that comes from knowing you’re safe. In the rugged alpine environment, where survival depends on awareness and strength, this was a glimpse of innocence and trust.

In Her Shadow is a reminder of the bonds that keep wild herds together, and the gentle moments of connection hidden within their untamed world.
