Monika Viktoria Diak is an artist based between the Blue Mountains and the Central Coast. She graduated with a BFA from the National Art School in 2007, then returned to her academic studies in 2020 to complete her Honours at Sydney College of the Arts. She was awarded the Artereal Gallery Mentorship Award for her body of work, Spectral Phenomena: Corollary to Anomalous Experience. Monika was a finalist in the Gosford Art Prize and Lake Art Prize in 2022, Naked and Nude Prize 2021, and Blue Mountains Portrait Prize both in 2021 and 2022, as well as successfully exhibiting three solo shows over the last two years. Whether painting in watercolours or oils, or working on her sculptural collections, a common ghostly theme prevails in her subjects and palette. Her works are pale and desaturated of bright hues, exploring various aspects of identity and the nature of anomalous experiences.
