The Rising Light

Part of the Structured Light Series, The Rising Light follows a vertical progression of organic forms that gradually narrow and expand as they move upward. Changes in scale, spacing, and direction create a rhythmic sequence that guides the eye through the composition.

Layered surfaces and metallic elements add variations in texture, depth, and reflectivity, while a concentrated burst of light creates a point of emphasis near the upper section.

The combination of structured progression and flowing organic forms gives the work both direction and movement. Its strong vertical composition creates a sense of height and presence, reflecting the Structured Light Series through a more organic interpretation of structure, rhythm, and light.

Morvarid Dastjerdi is a Sydney-based contemporary abstract artist whose practice explores how painting can create a different quality of attention, opening space for personal perceptual engagement with relationships. She creates layered abstract works in which light, movement, rhythm, texture, colour, and space interact across the surface. Light plays a central role, shaping both the composition and the way visual relationships change with movement, viewpoint, and surrounding conditions.

Dastjerdi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Directing, and her multidisciplinary background in cinema, theatre, and design informs her sensitivity to composition, movement, atmosphere, and visual attention. In selected works, she integrates circular mirrors into the painted surface as material and perceptual elements. Through reflection, these mirrors bring aspects of the viewer and surrounding environment into the visual field, creating a changing relationship between artwork, viewer, light, and space.
