Old Warrior

Beside the banks of the Barwon river, this ancient river gum has survived for hundreds of years. It has lost limbs, been damaged by storms and still it clings to life with all its battle scars. It's a haven for nesting birds and shelter for animals and people beneath its generous foliage. I often wonder what stories it could tell of the changing world beneath its gnarled trunk. I spent a few hours painting this magnificent tree right beside it and wishing it could talk to me.
