For the past 50+ years, I have merely tinkered with my artwork as working in a Green and then a Blue uniform for many years left little time to pursue my artistic leanings. I toured the world in 2013 studying art and competing in a World Archery Championships again. I have now completed my Fine Arts Degree and Curatorial Studies and working in my own 2 studios.
I suppose like all artists, I try to communicate my thoughts and feelings through my art. I know that I have been successful when the viewer feels the essence or spirit that I have instilled into my workpiece. If that spirit moves the viewer by emotion into other new directions of thought or even to question, then my story has evolved and moved on. I am drawn to contrasts, black and white, beauty and ugliness even focus and vagueness. Does a parrot lose its colour at night? No, it takes just a little light to explode the contrasts and reveal the beauty.
Having seen the ugliness and carnage that humans can inflict on each other and also the wonder of new life, I much prefer the latter. Yet every scene has something to offer and can present challenges for me and the story I wish to tell.
