Artwork Description

This acrylic painting captures the beauty and atmosphere of Galata Tower standing above the colourful rooftops of Istanbul. Built in 1348, the tower is one of the city’s most historic landmarks and has witnessed centuries of change, culture, and history.

Through soft skies, warm tones, and flying seagulls, I wanted to reflect the emotional feeling of Istanbul — nostalgic, lively, and timeless. Rather than focusing on realism, I used expressive colours and texture to create a dreamy and personal interpretation of the city I feel deeply connected to.

Artist Bio

Muge Aydin is an abstract artist based in Melbourne with a background in architecture. Her journey into painting began a few years ago, deeply inspired by her mother — a talented artist from Istanbul. Watching her paint as a child sparked Muge’s own passion for creativity and instilled a lifelong love for colour, texture, and self-expression.

Working primarily with acrylics on canvas, Muge builds layers of colour and texture to create a sense of movement, emotion, and depth. Her creative process often begins with a quick sketch, allowing her to translate fleeting thoughts and feelings into visual form before bringing the work to life.

Her style blends abstract forms with occasional surreal elements — where the boundaries between reality and imagination begin to blur. These dreamlike qualities offer space to explore inner emotions and personal stories, turning each painting into an emotional landscape.

Muge’s work is a reflection of her everyday experiences, thoughts, and moods. With each piece, she invites viewers to connect with the energy, stories, and emotions hidden behind the colours and forms.
