A western-style house floats alone.
The 'adrift' series plays on covid lockdowns throughout the world. As we were stuck at home, our house became our lifeboat, protecting us as we floated, alone and afraid, waiting to be rescued.

No rulers or tape masks are used in my paintings, every line is hand-painted. From far away the image looks like it has been made digitally, yet on closer inspection, the signs of the artist come forward- the buildup of paint, the wobble of a line.
Things like this, that in a digital image would be considered 'mistakes', become the heroes of the piece in my work, bringing the artist's heart and soul into the painting.

Artist Bio

MÜSS is a Melbourne-based artist, where he has lived and studied his whole life. Upon finishing school, MÜSS studied Visual arts, falling in love with sculpture, which led to a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art- sculpture.
After University MÜSS worked as a freelance graphic artist, working mostly with musicians, as he was a musician himself- creating posters, album covers etc. and working with an indigenous record label in Perth, which would lead to festival artwork designs, album designs, and artwork for the NAIDOC award ceremony.
After creating art for others for so long, it was time for MÜSS to make art for himself, which brought him back to painting. Using everything he learnt from his sculpture background, he wanted to bring a 3D look and a depth to his paintings, to give the sense that they are not simply a flat & static image, but could pop out of the canvas at any second.
The compositions of MÜSS’s work include various shapes that fill the entire canvas, right to the edges and sides, and all seem to float, layer upon layer, above each other- their shadows bouncing off and resting on another, creating a complex, yet elegant array of lines, shapes and colours. Calling back to his days as a graphic artist, MÜSS’s art replicates digital art, with its straight, precise lines and flat colours, yet are made completely by hand, with no rulers or tape masks. From far away this gives the illusion that the piece was merely created on computer and printed out, but on careful inspection, the viewer begins to see the build-up of paint, the wobble of a line which had before, looked completely straight. What would be considered ‘faults’ in a digital world, become the heroes of the piece, leaving remnants of the artist’s heart and soul on the canvas.
