Nance Silverman was born in Melbourne and lived her early life in the seaside suburb of Elwood. Her early fascination with art led her to pursue related studies at school and later commercial art at tertiary level. Her zeal to learn is reflected in the numerous art classes in which Nance has participated and is further echoed in her belief that art is a lifelong learning experience. She now prefers to paint in the acrylic medium.She has imparted a love of form colour, for which she is renowned to the many students she has taught in her classes over several years. Nance is inspired by portrait and figure drawing, which she continued to develop along thematic lines. Her popularity within the Victorian Artists Society of which she is a long standing member, is indicated by the large number of works selected for exhibition and the conferral of Signatory Membership in 1991. In 1989 and 1994 she was selected by the society as a finalist for "Artist of the Year" and was also invited by selection for the Saly Water River Festival Art Exhibition (City of Footscray). Nance's art is exhibited in numerous esteemed collections including the Melbourne Club for which her painting was chosen by Sir William Dargie, The Mordialloc Council Chambers and various private collections throughout Australia and overseas. She has been a finalist in the prestigious Westpac Maritime Exhibition and is the recipient of countless prizes, awards and commendations, her paintings are represented in Melbourne, country and interstate galleries, and her interests and influences include photography and music, both of which bear the interplay of light, colour and form that has become her trademark.
