Collagraph Print on Fabriano Rosaspina 280gsm paper.
This artwork is part of The Urban Collection.
This collagraph plays with the concept of deconstruction of the subject matter and of the parallel of the deconstruction of the printing method. The urban building slowly deconstructs and decays over time but it has been preserved in the moment by the use of a repurposed and recycled cardboard collagraph plate. A cardboard box destined for recycling is repurposed as an intaglio plate using the natural textures of the cardboard box to scribe and print an intaglio print. The fragile nature of the cardboard material results in very limited editions or unique state prints as the plate slowly disintegrates with each print. The unusually shaped prints are formed by the original unfolded packing box design. Beauty is found in using materials that are to be discarded to create an artwork that celebrates the beauty still found in buildings which have fallen into ruin themselves as they age.
Hand colouring of intaglio works harmoniously with the printed detail to bring specific elements to the viewer’s eye.
Each print has been worked over individually in the brushwork and fine detail, they contain minute differences and each print is unique.
