'Coastal Bushland Billabongs' is inspired by the native eel trap historically used by indigenous people at a coastal inlet not far from Naomi's home and studio on the Far Sth Coast of NSW. The amphitheatre of tall scribbly and spotted gums flank a shallow section of the creek, which has closed off to the ocean creating a natural billabong where eels are often trapped. Grandfather's Gully beach curves around in the background. Can you find the two escaped eels towards the base of the artwork? Naomi uses the age old cyanotype technique for sections of the background, with native she-oak and geometric patterns. This bold yet elegant painting is a one-off fine art abstract, and part of Naomi's Coastal Enchantment collection.
