'Riverbend with Cockatoos and Egret' is inspired by the Bombala River on the Australian Monaro Plains. The cool water contrasts against thickly layered foliage and distant towering eucalyptus trees. The call of two sulphur crested white cockatoos energises the crisp air. A 1.53 metre strip of silver leaf shimmers across the water in the foreground, catching the light. Up in the river bend, a great white egret holds still, waiting to catch lunch. This bold yet elegant painting is a one-off fine art abstract, and part of Naomi Crowther Bushland collection. Painted during the April 2026 Bombala Art Prize, with details such as the birds and reeds added back in the studio.
