Artwork Description

-Acrylic, water soluble pencil and pastel on stretched canvas.
-Finished with archival varnish, ready to hang.

This abstract original painting draws on elements from nature, the sea and sky with my own contemporary interpretation using layers of acrylic paint and mixed drawing media. Painted intuitively, from memories rather than a particular place, this expressive painting in restful blues and grey brings the calm and tranquility of the outdoors into the to the room in which it hangs.

Artist Bio

Narelle Gibbs holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, Art major from Edith Cowan University WA. After spending 20+ years as an expat living in the UK, the USA, and Canada, she returned to her roots in 2021 and holds dual citizenship in Australia and Canada. Residing in Queensland, she paints from her studio drawing on the surrounding landscape and nearby coastal areas that provide a constant source of inspiration for her paintings.

Narelle's recent paintings reflect the cycles of nature and explores the themes of constant change and renewal. Organic shapes emerge from the layers of paint drawing on real and remembered places, leaning towards abstract rather than representational forms. She often begins painting by making marks in pencil, charcoal and other drawing media, building up layers of paint to create contrasting surface textures, repeating the process as the individual piece evolves. Ultimately, it is not the subject matter but the shapes and colours of a painting and the overall feeling that it is communicated through the artwork to the viewer.

Narelle’s work is represented in public and private collections in Australia, the USA, Canada and the UK.
