Artwork Description

I wanted to bridge the gap between historical documentation and personal emotion. While her attire-from the high crown of the hat to the practical dark woolen layers-is rooted in the "peasant woman" costumes of rural 19th-century settings, her expression is what truly tells the story. Her gaze is steady and reflective, suggesting a resilience born from survival in a harsh, beautiful landscape.

The use of acrylics on a square canvas board allowed me to balance the bold, almost architectural silhouette of the hat with a softer, more intimate portrayal of her face. I hope this piece brings a piece of Iceland's storied past and enduring strength into your space.

Artist Bio

I am an Australian artist working in acrylic on canvas. My paintings explore the quiet beauty of everyday life, finding significance in familiar objects, domestic spaces and fleeting moments that are often overlooked.
Guided by themes of memory, place and nostalgia, I use light, composition and carefully observed detail to create paintings that feel both intimate and open-ended. Rather than telling a complete story, I aim to leave room for viewers to connect their own experiences with the work.

Through contemporary realism, I hope to encourage a slower way of looking—one that reveals the extraordinary within the ordinary.
