Artwork Description

Beneath the Bark explores the beauty of nature through a palette of earthy greens, rich browns and subtle shimmer.

Built through a special process of slowly layering alcohol inks, allowing each ink to freely move across the canvas surface and set naturally resulting in a unique finish.

Organic textures and different tones evoke weathered tree bark, with each layered detail revealing more the longer you look.

This artwork has been created on a sustainable canvas made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, helping to keep plastic out of landfill and the environment. The canvas is mould resistant and will not sag over time, as it does not expand and contract like traditional fibre canvases.

The painting can be displayed in either direction and is signed on the back.

Your artwork will be carefully rolled and shipped in a protective tube. If you would prefer your painting to arrive stretched and ready to hang, professional stretching or framing can be selected through Bluethumb’s priority framing service.

Artist Bio

Hi I’m Natalie Jayne, a alcohol ink and collage artist based in Melbourne.
Art has always been such a huge part of my identity, my sanctuary, and my way of connecting with the world.

The inspiration for my art pieces comes from the different aspects of nature, the vibrant hues of flowers, the calming waves of the beach, and the resilience of greenery. Nature's ever-changing canvas is a gentle reminder that there is beauty found in each stage of growth or change.

I first discovered alcohol inks in 2017 and instantly fell in love with them.
Alcohol inks are really something special, no two pieces are ever the same. Painting with them is like seeing a dance of colours right before your eyes, and once dried they unveil the most mesmerising patterns and textures.

After years of creating abstract pieces of art with alcohol inks, I realised that these images closely mimicked the textures and details that are found in flowers and leaves. I began to experiment with cutting out petal shapes to create unique floral collages, an amazing new way to use my beloved alcohol inks within pieces that are both different and beautiful. This was how the birth of my floral collage art style came to life.

When people experience my art I hope that they feel a connection, a tug at their heartstrings. I want to transport people to a unique memory, to feel joy, and to see a story unfold before their eyes.
