Natalie Spain is a Sydney-born contemporary artist with a passion for tea parties, libraries and amazing chairs. Inspired by her love of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, her bright, colourful Pointillist works feature sprays of colour and light, with a focus on the beauty of colour and shape found within simple, everyday objects.
Her practice explores still life and the intimacy and quietude of interior spaces. Her focus is never an entire space, but merely a small, cosy corner, often furnished sparsely with a chair or table. A repeated motif in this series of works is books. As a lifelong bibliophile, Spainโs inclusion of books creates the impression of a place that promotes intellectual engagement, solitude and reflection.
