Artwork Description

"The Free Woman" is an evocative art piece that illuminates the journey of Nazdana, a girl filled with hope, from a painful past to a vibrant and promising present and future. This artwork reflects the profound transformation she experienced, transitioning from a shadowed homeland in Afghanistan to finding solace and purpose in her second home, Australia a once distant dream now realized.

At the heart of this composition lies a powerful symbolism that intertwines strength, femininity, and nature. A delicate purple flower emerges, standing in contrast against the fiery orange gaze, embodying the softer aspects of femininity.

The artwork encapsulates the resilience and unwavering spirit of Nazdana. Her painful past serves as a wellspring of inspiration, fuelling her determination to embrace life's possibilities and to find liberation in her newfound home. It is through hope, her steadfast companion, that she finds the strength to rise above adversity and create her own narrative.

"The Free Woman" celebrates Nazdana's indomitable spirit, highlighting her unwavering belief in the transformative power of hope. It invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys, reminding them of the innate ability to find beauty, strength, and inspiration even in the face of darkness.

Artist Bio

I am Nazdana Bakhtiari, a visual artist painting in my small home studio in Sydney. I create pieces of art to share my joy, hope, and enthusiasm for life. I come from Afghanistan, a deprived homeland where all dreams and hopes for a normal life have vanished. When I remember how I transitioned from a dark past to a brighter present, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and positive feelings. This is when my art truly comes to life.

I left Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of my country. I was evacuated by the Australian army and fled the country with the assistance of the Australian Air Force. I cannot fully describe the experience, as I felt completely lost in between my past and present as if trapped in a never-ending nightmare. After finding safety and arriving in Australia, it felt like being reborn. I am now living in a beautiful place that I can call home and have found true peace and happiness in life. I believe that one day, all the darkness and pain will dissipate. No matter how dark the shadow and how painful the experiences are, there is always a glimmer of hope on the horizon. This is what keeps us people alive and helps us persevere. I firmly believe that sunny days, brightness, and happiness are waiting for us, just as the sun rises after a storm.

My goal is to inspire others and bring hope, joy, and strength to their lives through my artwork.
