Artwork Description

Windswept Maria Island National Park lies off the East coast of Tasmania. A beautiful but wild place with naturally stunning landscapes and an underlying history of penal settlements and convict days. One of the few remaining convict constructed houses.....

Artist Bio

Mainly a landscape artist working both in watercolour and acrylic. I paint the dramatic landscapes of my homeland , Tasmania.
I have been a commercial photographer and illustrator. I often bushwalk through local wilderness areas in search of subjects to paint.
I like to paint on location and with the suddenly changeable Tasmanian weather, that is sometimes quite a challenge!
I mainly stick to landscapes, although l have done portraits upon special request.
I have worked in a graphic design capacity, drawing or painting "realistically" for book illustrations etc but recently l have been moving to more impressionistic styles with my acrylics. In other styles, l like to use traditional watercolour and also ink and wash linework . I have recently also been into using pastels and mixed media....so who knows what l will try next !
Life is always an adventure and l feel l am always developing new ways to express that in my paintings.
Most of my watercolours are up to 420 x 300 but my acrylics are 1200x 900.

I have been injured in late 2022 and surgery has necessitated me to go back to smaller watercolours rather than large acrylics at the big easel.
I now am painting with my Left Hand to allow me to paint at all.
I would like to express my thanks to surgeons and as a consequence, l am donating 25% of sales to the local Hobart hospital .
