Artwork Description

This painting is signed and ready to hang with hanging wire and D loops fitted. The painting is acrylic on canvas; the graffiti art in the painting is redone in Neil’s own style so not to replicate other people’s artworks and for copyright reason. All the graffiti in the painting is his own original artwork. Neil thinks the way that the graffiti can change a dark and dingy Alleyway into a colourful piece of artistic expression is to him, one of the most amazing spaces in some the most amazing places in our cities. This is his way of painting an urban landscape that is full of colours. The challenges of being able to come up with his own graffiti for the painting give the artwork plenty of things for the viewer to study. The painting is of Croft Alley in China Town Melbourne. It was part of a solo exhibition held at GIGs Gallery, titled Urban Inspirations. The opening of the exhibition can be found at:

Artist Bio

Neil Hartles completed an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts at distinction level at Albury’s Riverina Institute of TAFE NSW.
Since then, he has worked full-time as an artist. He has a passion for painting, oil and acrylic on canvas being his preferred medium. Consumed by the painting process and the study of the subject, it can distort time when he is in the studio, doesn’t even notice how long he has worked somedays. That’s what makes it his true calling in life.
Neil is also highly skilled in metalwork and furniture building and had four pieces in the MAMA collection. As a fourth-generation metalworker, blacksmithing is in his blood. He has been blacksmithing for over 25 years as part of his art practice and found it comes naturally to him. He loves creating things that bring happiness to the people that buy his artwork and support his creative ability.
He has sold numerous paintings and metal sculptures to private collections and art galleries.
