Salvos

This painting is titled (Salvos). Neil Hartles has created artwork that depicts an area of a back alleyway in Melbourne CBD. The way the perspective in this painting gives the viewer a sense of looking up at the old metal bars in the brick wall of the alleyway full of the colours of the artworks referred to as graffiti; Hartles prefers to call it street art. He has recreated the scene of the old pipes, sheet metal cover and metal bars of the back alleyway seen by delivery drivers and staff from the businesses that operate in the area. Melbourne has little gems hidden all over CBD that the public doesn't get to see. The painting was part of the Urban Inspiration exhibition; I think he has created a gem in this painting.

Neil Hartles completed an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts at distinction level at Albury’s Riverina Institute of TAFE NSW.
Since then, he has worked full-time as an artist. He has a passion for painting, oil and acrylic on canvas being his preferred medium. Consumed by the painting process and the study of the subject, it can distort time when he is in the studio, doesn’t even notice how long he has worked somedays. That’s what makes it his true calling in life.
Neil is also highly skilled in metalwork and furniture building and had four pieces in the MAMA collection. As a fourth-generation metalworker, blacksmithing is in his blood. He has been blacksmithing for over 25 years as part of his art practice and found it comes naturally to him. He loves creating things that bring happiness to the people that buy his artwork and support his creative ability.
He has sold numerous paintings and metal sculptures to private collections and art galleries.
