Artwork Description

With this series, Nic revisits her old stomping ground, the Strathbogie Region, where she grew up on her family farm along the Sevens Creek. Nic has always been inspired by the tall gums and flora on her family farm, having been exposed to this at a young age through her fathers regeneration projects spending hours on end planting nature corridors along the Sevens Creek. This series is inspired by the natural vegetation of the area, learning the names of the different flora and celebrating the ecosystems that have existed for hundreds of years.

In this series, Nic applies techniques that have been used since the beginning of her practice, specifically fluid pouring to replicate the textures in nature, such as the bark, trees and shrubs. The unpredictable nature of pouring reflects the chaotic design of nature itself and each piece draws in the viewer to look a little closer at the details, to slow down and notice the fine marks created, and in turn, notice those fine details in their own environments. Each piece celebrates a memory from Nic's childhood, of walking along the river beds, looking up at the tall gum trees, hearing the kookaburra's laughing in the background. This series titled 'My Inner Child' is a whimsical take on the natural landscape seen through the eyes of her inner child, capturing the playfulness and colours fondly remembered from her days growing up on her family farm.

Artist Bio

Nic Everist is a landscape artist working from her studio in Barwon Heads, Australia. Inspired by her travels, Nic loves to discover new landscapes and delve into the stories behind them; whether that be the story behind the place she is visiting, or the ones that emerge through her explorations. Each painting is accompanied by a poem to offer the viewer a deeper understanding of her work.

Over the course of numerous layers, Nic combines the abstract technique of acrylic pouring with realistic finishes to reflect both the organic yet defined elements of nature. These techniques mimic the unpredictable patterns of our natural environment while also drawing the viewer’s eye to the finer details. Through her art she hopes to encourage others to pay close attention to the world around them, and the patterns that emerge.
