Artwork Description

My wife was born in Friesland in the north of the Nederland’s. I created this vibrant painting inspired by Picasso and stained-glass windows. This bold composition reflects images that I remember from our travels throughout this region. Dutch Gabled architecture (one as a windmill) features at the top of the composition as does a stylised Friesian Flag as the sky. Yellow cheese features, tulips, as does a woman wearing a lace cap. An old Dutch bridge occupies the bottom of the artwork.

Artist Bio

I was born in Adelaide, South Australia, worked as an art teacher and artist in Victoria and South Australia after completing my B.A. in Secondary Art Teaching in 1982 and B.A. in Design in at the University of South Australia in 1988. I am inspired by my travels overseas to Paris, France and The Netherlands as well as my local coastal community. I enjoy painting in oil paints to create a textural effect with paint brushes and also use acrylic paint.
