In 2017 , I retired from the construction industry as a Steelfixer of forty odd years . For twenty five years I have been shooting birds & landscapes as a pastime . Around four years ago I was reminded of a colony of Pelicans that live at Boreen Point on Lake Cootharaba , part of the Noosa Everglades in Queensland . So I figured it would be an idea to shoot some portraits of individuals as they are easy to access of an afternoon whilst preening . They congregate on a small landing known as "Ron's Jetty" , about the size of a small car , there can be over twenty Pelicans on this jetty at the same time . It didn't take long to discover the "portrait" idea wasn't working out .... they all look the same !! I don't remember exactly why , but I made a "composite" of some of the guys sitting on a lounge . It was well received , so I went back late December to take more shots specifically for composites . They had gone and would not return until mid June of the following year . I was given a load of theories as to where they go , but after four years of taking images of the guys , I think they just split up into smaller groups . So , the composites are a rough idea of what they get up to when their not home . I've had no formal training in the arts , big surprise , and I shoot Nikon . Favorite camera is the D4s and I use the 600mm f4 for the guys . So , I hope you like my "work" and hopefully they give you laugh . My website is BigBird Photography and there's lots of different stuff to look at . ALL IMAGES ARE SCALED DOWN FROM VERY LARGE FILES & ARE NOT PRINT QUALITY . FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY AND CONVERSIONS WILL NOT THE HAVE THE BIGBIRD LOGO ON PRINT . Good Chat . Cheers Nick .
