Artwork Description

Cat - outsmarted and dominated by a rather regal dalmation.
I'm a cat person... though I do love dogs too... but this is a nod to my friends who think/believe/know dogs are better than cats.

Artist Bio

Nic is an emerging artist , originally from the UK, moved to Australia in 2012.
Her work is mostly joyful and full of vitality and energy. Some people have said that her work just makes them feel happier. Her use of colour is unusual and vibrant, favouring transparent and juicy colours. For each painting, she uses a limited palette; however, which colours those are is chosen specifically for each painting in order to capture the nuances and visceral truth of the subject. Occasionally her work is more mournful and reflective and explores trickier emotions.

Background:
She's primarily self-taught up until she started working as an artist in 2014. She started working as an art teacher another 15 months after that. and is still teaching at Peninsula Arts Society and numerous Community Houses in Victoria. While originally trained as a Physicist and has worked in various areas of disabilities, she also studied Architecture for a few years before coming to Australia. All of these have impacted on her practice. For example she's adept with Photoshop and her work is often explores various aspects of Psychology. Initially a portrait artist in acrylics - since starting teaching - she has diversified into oils, charcoal, pastels and watercolours, and applying those mediums to land/sea-scapes, trees, florals, still-life, life-drawing, and more cartoon-like figurative works... and cats!
