Artwork Description

One interpretation of the phrase "Through a glass darkly" suggests having a vague or flawed perception of reality. While the painting may not directly illustrate this concept, it feels strangely apt. The wine glass distorts and exaggerates the visage of the artwork's unfortunate protagonist. Their distorted and fragmented view of reality is intensified through the wine glass, enhanced by abstract shapes and infused with shades of magenta.
This artwork is part of a series of still life pieces that emply common domestic items arranged to evoke the uncanny. It aims to hint at the darker, unsettling aspects of the ordinary and familiar.

Artist Bio

I am a Blue Mountains based painter focussing on still live and portraiture. My artworks are intensely detailed representations of domestic items, or montages from visual sources, with a Surreal twist. My artistic process can best be described as a creative scavenger hunt, following visual clues which are either intriguing or disturbing. I will then tease out a composition based upon this motif. As a self confessed perfectionist as well as a stickler for detail, a painting can often take several months to complete.
Since graduating with a BFA from the National Art School in Sydney, I have exhibited in several solo, as well as group, exhibitions in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. While at art school, I was the recipient of art awards for excellence as well as winning a partial scholarship.
I have been selected as a finalist in notable art awards including the AME Bale Art Award, the Shirley Hannan Portrait Prize, and most recently, the Lethbridge 20000 Prize for Small Artworks. I am available for commissions, particularly portraiture.
