"Aspirational" is from my series “Homing Instinct” reflecting on notions of home, nesting, safety, and security. These works are motivated by colour and nostalgia, having a love for fabrics and historical references.
My work is often informed by narrative, something which is real, known or familiar, in an unreal or peculiar setting. Reflecting on notions of home with a focus on objects, furnishings, spaces and the perceived status of these elements. The interior home and its garden as a reflection of personality, or a nest and a haven.
I was once a proud duck owner, having raised them from ducklings, with a fascination and enjoyment for their antics and sublime meanderings. In the avian world, the male is often more spectacularly coloured, and the Khaki-Campbell drake is no exception. Beautiful teal necks, green bills, orange legs and soft tawny feathers, silken to the touch.
The boho revival of the peacock chair is no less showy than its namesake in all its manifestations of shape and pattern. A majestic piece, with upright throne-like qualities, it lent itself to the idea of stature, befitting my brown duck perched aloft plump and luxurious cushions, nestled and entitled.
