This work is part of a series on how we piece our sense of identity together through bodily memory. We rely on our bodies to hold experiences and to keep our history within them. Sometimes the self retained in the body is fractured and twisted due to breaks in memory or lack of consistency of our perceived remembrance.
I like to work with the body and movement as for me it is the most authentic reflection of my own experience of being in the world. This work was created in a studio with a dancer during a photo shoot examining the concept of bodily memory. The photograph was then altered digitally in order to remove narrative context and heighten ambiguity so that the viewer could bring their own story to the work.
The warmth of the colour of the skin and the humanity of the figure will bring warmth to a room and create a talking point if desired into the nature of our location of self.
The work is variable in dimensions and price upon agreement between artist and purchaser.
