Artwork Description

Inspired by aerial views of the Australian coastline, Gulf Inlet explores the shifting boundaries between land and water. Ochre, cream and blue forms suggest sediment carried towards the sea, creating channels and shallow sandbanks along the water's edge.

The work reflects my interest in viewing landscape from above, where patterns of movement, erosion and accumulation become visible.

Acrylic on canvas, finished with a matt varnish and presented in a natural timber frame.

Artist Bio

I am a Melbourne-based abstract landscape artist whose work explores the movement, interaction and transformation of natural systems.
Inspired by the diverse Australian environment, from coastlines and inland waterways to arid terrain and geological formations, I often draw on aerial perspectives to move beyond a conventional view of landscape. My paintings explore the landscape through its surfaces, the forces that shape it, and the mineral structures concealed within it.
Working with fluid and textured acrylics, I build layers of colour, movement and texture to suggest processes such as erosion, sedimentation, water movement and geological change. The paintings are not intended as literal representations of particular places. Instead, landscape becomes a starting point for exploring patterns and structures that operate at very different scales.
My background in documentary filmmaking influences the way I construct a painting, particularly my attention to composition, movement and visual flow. I am interested in creating works that lead the eye across the canvas while retaining areas of stillness and ambiguity.
Through my work, I see landscape as a living system—constantly changing, evolving and being reshaped over time.
