Masala A

Masala is a bold, layered abstraction that celebrates the richness of Australia as a nation shaped by migration. Thick, expressive strokes of crimson, teal, ochre and blush collide and coexist across the canvas, echoing the way cultures, histories and identities intersect to form something entirely new.

Like its namesake, Masala is not about a single ingredient dominating the dish, but about contrast, harmony and complexity. Each colour holds its own voice, yet together they create movement, warmth and depth — a visual metaphor for a society built from many stories.

Painted in acrylic with palette knife techniques, the work arrests the viewer as you try to walk past: moments of intensity softened by calm, sharp lines tempered by expansive space.

Masala speaks to belonging without uniformity — a reminder that beauty often emerges not from sameness, but from difference.

In her day job, Nisha is an experienced, senior media professional working in the unique nexus where brands and media meet Australian consumers. Understanding consumers and societal sentiment is at the heart of her professional and personal passions, and flow through to her art. Her works are reflective of key societal tensions on these topics and designed to drive conversation where they are displayed.

Nisha's paintings are one facet of her work in D,E&I as part of her consultancy, 3RD CULTURE, which spans other elements such as speaker services. She has led a limited podcast series - 'It's A Bit Awkward' to keep these conversations topical and offers speaker services and D,E&I training for organisations.
