Artwork Description

Artist Bio

Niwsha’s work investigates the concept of psychological displacement as experienced and expressed by migrant artists, with a particular focus on how feelings of internal dislocation are represented through visual art. While migrant art has been extensively examined through the lens of physical loss and cultural nostalgia, less attention has been given to the invisible, internal dimensions of displacement—such as anxiety, identity fragmentation, and emotional estrangement from both origin and host cultures.
In her paintings, Niwsha endeavours to create spaces where she can simply be—away from the tensions of both worlds: the one she left behind in her home country and the one she now inhabits in Australia. By examining these in‑between zones, she seeks to build a safe place in which she can make sense of her layered identity.
