Artwork Description

I began this particular piece while immersed in the haunting melodies of Radiohead's In Rainbows album. The album’s intricate soundscapes and emotional depth resonated with me, sparking an exploration of emotion through visual language. As the music played, the feeling of dread began to take form, guiding the overall direction of the artwork.

This piece became an expression of unease and tension, with the human form and face serving as conduits for that emotion. Through the pastels I sought to visually communicate a sense of foreboding—a tension that mimics the emotional complexities explored within the album’s layers.

Artist Bio

Noah Godfrey is an artist who explores the complexities of the human experience through the mediums of oil paint, oil pastels, and acrylic paint. Deeply fixated on the human form, particularly the face, Noah seeks to capture the subtle nuances of emotion and expression that define our shared human condition.

Drawing inspiration from the intricate details of facial features, Noah uses these mediums to bring a raw, emotional intensity to each piece. The artist’s work is a study of vulnerability and the unspoken language of the face—communicating a sense of connection that resonates with viewers on a personal level.

Through vibrant layers of paint and texture, Noah creates portraits that invite reflection and empathy, allowing the viewer to see not only the individual depicted, but also themselves in the expression captured. Whether through the finish of oil paint or the bold marks of oil pastels, each piece becomes a window into the emotional landscape of the human soul.

In every stroke and every choice of color, Noah invites the audience to pause, reflect, and consider the vast spectrum of emotions that we all share.
