Artwork Description

Cypress windbreaks are a common sight in south-eastern Australia, the dark silhouettes of the trees edging the paddocks. The shapes of windbreak trees intrigue me. I sketched this windbreak one morning at the entrance to the paddock, waiting for the harvester to arrive.

Artist Bio

My interest in natural forms has been shaped by time spent bushwalking and rock climbing in southern Australia. My outdoors experience influences my paintings. I'm intrigued with the wonderful textures and colour play in the Australian landscape.

I enjoy creating works on paper using watercolour, inks, graphite, and pencil. I'm fascinated by the way that coloured pigments interact with paper. So I find watercolour intriguing - often frustrating, but always intriguing! Drawing with ink offers a wonderfully tactile experience. Pens are an interesting tool for mark making, responsive to the way they are wielded as well as to the substrate. Drawing with a pen provides me with opportunities to explore a subject differently to watercolour.

I show and sell my work in exhibitions in Melbourne, regional Victoria and Tasmania.
