hi my name is Steve Preston, nuthouse arthouse is my trademarked name. I have been involved in art since i was a child drawing on horrible butcher paper my mum used to save for me with only a nasty, hard, HB pencil or cheap biro available. My first influences were 1960s type classic cartoons, weird looking kids and teachers at school, also, boats, trucks, hot rods, and cranes ( my father owned these items) i was then totally involved in the Australian surf culture from my mid teens onwards including the shaping and manufacturer of surfboards, with the art on the surfboards included of course! I spent time travelling on several trips to countries like France and Spain , Portugal and New Zealand to find amazing uncrowded waves in my early 20s . music also played a big part of my influences. Its important for me to state that all my art is done sober and straight, i do not drink alcohol or take any recreational drugs. I have done many group exhibitions and solo exhibitions in the Sydney inner city and central coast NSW from the late1990s onward, i exhibited often with other central coast artists such as Yianni Johns, Sue Bannister, Russell Austin etc before taking a 8 year respite from exhibiting in NSW and moving to the Fraser coast region 6 years ago, ( i have done too many NSW exhibitions to try to remember them all) therefore i have only mentioned exhibitions done since moving to Queensland in this profile. I have done various interviews with ABC radio both in QLD and NSW as well as being a guest speaker at the Gosford art prize dinner 2004, i have also had many exhibitions and art articles in newspapers and entertainment magazines over the years. Some of the people who have owned my art have been, Garry Beers ( INXS bass player) ,6 time gold Logie winner Paula Duncan, central coast art critic Ron Rivett ( author Di Morrissey uncle), Australian heavyweight boxing champion Bob Mirovic , along with many other private sales, i have also dontated artworks and raised money at exhibitions for various charities, recently i have started selling dgt prints of my art on hi quality, ethically sourced tee shirts as well under the brand name nuthouse arthouse, thank you, steve
