"Honey" the Dingo

This is my original, matted and framed Pastel Wildlife Portrait, "Honey" the Dingo. This particular dingo lives at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra - she's not named Honey, but her colouring and sweet look led me to rename her for this portrait.

Dingoes are officially considered native Australian animals, although its taxonomic status is debated. There is evidence to suggest that they are a unique form of dog although technically they were introduced to Australia (albeit around 5,000 years ago).

There is a love-hate relationship with Dingoes, depending on where you live and whether you own livestock. Some areas of Australia list them as protected native wildlife, and others as unprotected. Others still, list them as pests that need to be controlled. Dingoes have been categorised as being “vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List due to a decline in the number of “pure dingoes” because of cross-breeding with domestic dogs.

10% of the profit made from the sale of this artwork will be donated to the Australian Conservation Foundation, to help them in their efforts to protect our environment and wildlife.

Honey was created with Pan Pastels and Pastel pencils on Canson Mi-Teintes Tex paper. It comes matted, framed and ready-to-hang with D-hooks and picture wire attached.

The image size in the mat is 28cm (w) x 28cm (h). The external dimensions of the mat are 39.5cm (w) x 39.5cm (h). The frame is 42cm (w) x 42cm (h).

The frame is a light natural timber and the mat is dark blue/grey.

Nyree is a local Canberra artist who finds inspiration in the natural environment, with flowers and wildlife prominent in her work. She enjoys using a variety of mediums and techniques to bring her subjects to life: predominantly using pan-pastels, acrylics and textural mixed-media.

Nyree believes that art can play a valuable role in promoting nature conservation and hopes that her work can contribute to this cause, which is close to her heart. To this end, she is currently working on an extensive series of Australian Wildlife Portraits, particularly focusing on endangered animals. She also enjoys the challenge of commissioned pet-portraits, working closely with people who wish to have a special artwork created to capture the unique personalities of their furry companions.

Nyree is a member of the Artists Society of Canberra and the Queanbeyan Art Society. She frequently exhibits in Canberra and at the monthly QAS exhibitions, at which she has been awarded the following prizes:
