"Sadie" is a pastel portrait of a Sugar Glider. They are found all along the eastern and northern coasts of Australia and are plentiful. They have the remarkable ability to glide from tree branch to tree branch using a furry, skin-membrane which stretches from their front paws to their back paws.
I was inspired to paint a sugar glider when I discovered that they are being selectively bred and sold as pets in the USA. They are kept in small cages like birds, and rarely (if ever) get the chance to glide at all. I believe we should let wild animals BE wild, IN the wild where they belong.
I'm pleased to say that "Sadie" was awarded 4th Prize in Pastels, at the local Queanbeyan Art Society competition in 2021.
Sadie comes ready to hang, with a white mat and black frame.
