This piece was inspired by the phenomenon of the moon appearing in the afternoon sky. The limited palette of yellow, purple and blue hues is taken from the night, but transmuted to day in pastel tints. The soft, looping gestures and movement of the paint reflect the same floaty, ethereal feeling I have when I see the lightness of the daytime moon. The burning, warm yellows are how I imagine the stars could look if they too could appear in the day.
The paint was built up in impasto layers and has beautiful texture when viewed in person.
The piece is on double thick canvas and has finished painted sides in a pale lilac. It is signed on the right edge.
