Artwork Description

This painting is a part of a series that captures the quiet rhythm of the Australian landscape - rolling hills, open skies, and the familiar presence of eucalyptus trees standing tall in shifting light. Each painting explores a slightly different moment in time, where colour, shadow, and perspective transform an otherwise constant view into something deeply felt and remembered.

Soft gradients of blue and green stretch into the distance, creating a sense of depth and calm, while long, stretching shadows anchor the viewer in a specific time of day. The trees act as both frame and subject, sentinel-like, grounding the scene while guiding the eye across the landscape.

There is a gentle nostalgia embedded in these works, inspired by fleeting moments in nature that feel both expansive and intimate. The compositions invite stillness, offering a space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the quiet familiarity of place.

Perfect as a standalone piece or as a cohesive set, these paintings bring a sense of calm, light, and openness into any interior.

Artist Bio

Olivia Kate Walmsley is a Melbourne-based visual artist and registered Art Therapist (MA, La Trobe University) whose work explores the intersection of memory, texture, and the human psyche. Drawing on her background in Communication Design and landscape studies at Edinburgh University, Olivia creates tactile, visceral pieces that act as "anchors" for nostalgia.

Her practice is deeply influenced by the belief that certain patterns and colours have the power to transport us to a specific time or place. Rather than focusing on intellectualised subjects, Olivia prioritises the 'felt' experience, using rich textures and layering to evoke a sense of home and history. Every piece is an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the quiet stories we carry within us.
