Artwork Description

This artwork will be on display at Bluethumb's Melbourne Gallery exhibition 'The Art of Inspiration' from May 24th. Dispatch will occur after the exhibition ends on June 26th.

During art classes at school I was always intrigued and amazed how the old masters could create a sense of depth on a two dimensional plane. So for a long time I just painted basic geometric shapes trying to catch this sense of depth, playing with composition, colours, and perspective. Then one day a thought crossed my mind, why don't I paint on a 3D surface. That's when something clicked and the fun started. I discovered that I enjoyed painting but also constructing and this new method was the perfect combination of both worlds.

This painting's inspiration is from my musical background. I played guitar from a young age and while playing I noticed that the guitar wasn't made from one piece of wood. Rather it was collection of individual pieces of wood who all served their own special purpose. Some of the pieces were different types of wood, different colour and shape, or constructed with different methods.

I imagined all those pieces flying apart and I was able to examine them all. This is what this painting is about. It's the deconstruction of a guitar and the celebration of all the different parts and shapes, and colours that make up this wonderful instrument.
