Artwork Description

This artwork presents a vivid exploration of colour theory, geometric abstraction, and three‑dimensional form, arranged in a precise circular configuration that echoes the logic of the colour wheel. Six painted cubes—each rendered in a saturated hue from violet through red—form a hexagonal ring, creating a dynamic interplay between symmetry, perspective, and spatial rhythm.

The piece challenges traditional expectations of painting by embracing non‑traditional surfaces and sculptural canvas shapes, transforming simple cubes into both object and image. Their angled placement produces shifting shadows and optical tension, inviting viewers to consider how colour behaves across planes, edges, and depth.

Influences from M.C. Escher emerge in the work’s mathematical precision and its fascination with impossible or looping spatial arrangements. The bold chromatic segmentation and structural clarity recall Piet Mondrian’s commitment to pure colour and form, while the saturated palette and playful immediacy nod to the Pop Art movement, where everyday objects and bright commercial colours become elevated into high visual impact.

By merging sculptural presence with painterly intention, the work becomes a meditation on how colour occupies space—not just on a flat surface, but as a tangible, architectural entity.
