Artwork Description

Old wrought-iron gates. Stone worn by time. A bluish dusk in which the city has almost faded away.
And through all of it β€” upward, unstoppable β€” a blazing hibiscus.
Its petals burn in red, orange, and crimson β€” living flame against a muted blue. The golden scrollwork of the gate echoes the gold of the stamens, as if the past and present speak the same language. Heavy stone below, free-moving leaves above β€” and between them, this flower that needs no permission to bloom.
This is not about what was. It is about what lives on β€” regardless.

Mixed media on canvas, Raised lines. Artist's signature on both sides. Certificate of authenticity included. Wall hanging hardware and wire included.

Artist Bio

Oxana Arefin is a Brisbane-based visual artist of Russian-Ukrainian heritage. Holding degrees in both arts and psychology, she works across photography, painting, and mixed media β€” weaving these disciplines into a practice that bridges the artistic and psychological. Through convex forms and layered surfaces, her work extends beyond the flat canvas into immersive, psychologically charged spaces. Her art delves into emotion, perception, and the hidden dimensions of human experience, drawing viewers into an intimate and evolving dialogue. Oxana's works are held in private collections across the USA, France, Ukraine, Russia, and New Zealand, and her photography projects have earned Honours Commendations at exhibitions in Malta, Russia, and Australia.
