Palmera

This painting was inspired by my neighbours.

I few Sundays ago, during the morning, my neighbours were doing a little trim in their front yard where they have this huge trees, bushes and flowers. Later in the afternoon when I went for a walk around the block, I saw all the pieces of tree that they'd cut and on top of the pile, there was this beautiful green, almost plastic looking leave and I just had to pick it up and almost rescue it from the trash truck that was coming the day after. It was so green and shiny that I just had to paint it.

For this painting, I prepare the canvas with gesso, used acrylic for the base colours and for the details I used oil pastels and chalk.

I did a Bachelor of Illustration about eight years ago as I grew up between colouring books, coloured pencils, markers, watercolours and other material that my parents used to give me all the time when I was a child and I always loved the illustrations on the children's books that I had so I wanted to become a children's book illustrator and I have been working as a freelance ever since.

I was also always intrigued by oils so about five years ago I started to experiment with oils and acrylics and I feel in love. As I'm still learning , I tend to jump between different styles and techniques but I mostly paint portraits of people mixed with a bit of abstract, nature and just thingy that comes from my imagination.
