One of the paths at Wollongong's City Beach that leads from the carpark to the dunes. This painting doesn't so much depict the beach itself, but what gets you to and from the beach - an inbetween.
The last light of day from the west leaves the shrubs and sandy path in cool shadow, while the clouds on the horizon catch the last of its warmth. Not quite day, not quite night - another inbetween.
I really love the low contrast vibe at this time of day; that's what I have sought to capture in this piece.
Trying a different technique, there are a few spots of raw canvas left unpainted in order to depict some of the cloud areas.
This painting is varnished with Gamblin Gamvar Gloss varnish.
