Artwork Description

This drawing continues a theme that I have been building on. I'm trying to get people to think how animals from different countries would react if they had to meet. As humans we are not very kind or hospitable to foreigners and immigrants

This drawing is about the dung beetle (African) moving into Australia (the inquisitive noisy miners) with all his shit (the ball of dung). I think a lot of expats can relate to this scene. I sure can.

Research has shown that dung beetles navigate by the stars and the moon. They are able to take a celestial snapshot of the milky way and store it in their tiny brains. When the dung beetle starts to roll its ball of poop, its able to move in a straight line by matching the stored images of the sky with its current environment. This allows then to move quickly in a straight line. Clever little guys.

Artist Bio

I use my art as escape from my daily grind as an industrial designer.
The sketching and drawing I do for work is very precise and accurate, often just simple 2 dimensional shapes and objects. Its quite constricting but I get to explore and understand shape, form, scale and negative space.
With my pencil drawing I get to be more expressive. Both constrictive and expressive drawing styles help me to explore and expand my drawing abilities, experimenting with new compositions, view points and techniques

Graphite pencils have been my go to medium for years although recently I have ventured into the world of colour pencils and oil pastels. Some say there is no turning back?
I like to explore different subject matter, challenging myself with levels of detail and textures.
